A ductless mini-split is a flexible home heating and cooling system because it can control temperatures in either a single room or multiple rooms in your house. It is split to have an indoor and outdoor unit, and the outdoor unit can have multiple indoor units connected to it.

How Does a Ductless Mini-Split Work?
The outdoor unit is a compressor or condenser, while the indoor unit is the air handler. A conduit containing the power cable, tubing, and condensate drain links the two units together.
Similar to a heat pump, a ductless mini-split is run off of electrical power, and instead of generating heat, it absorbs heat. Then it moves that heat into your home when you want warmth and removes the hot air when you want a cooler temperature.
The outdoor unit can come in different sizes depending on how many indoor units you connect to it. A single outdoor unit can connect to up to eight indoor units, though most households need fewer than that.
